Mrs Abi Pointing MBE, DL, MA

Abi Pointing is the Merseyside Lieutenancy Liaison Officer assigned to the LCA.

She was awarded an MBE in 2008 for her community relations work in Liverpool and Manchester prisons. She was commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant in 2010 and was High Sheriff for the County of Merseyside for 2014-15.

Abi is now retired from full-time employment, but her working career included employment with Liverpool Careers Service and Nacro (National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders). She is an experienced manager and trainer, having delivered training on race and diversity issues to staff in the public, voluntary, health and criminal justice sectors. She has also worked at a national level with a number of criminal justice agencies on the race and diversity agenda. Abi has worked with the Judicial Studies Board and The Magistrates’ Association in the development and delivery of race and diversity training for the magistrates and staff working in the Magistrates’ Courts.

Abi was an Independent Adviser on race and diversity issues to the Governor at HMP Manchester. In this role, Abi was involved in reviewing how the prison service’s equality and diversity agenda translated into practice in the everyday service delivery in the prison.
Since taking retirement from Nacro, Abi set up her training consultancy and also catering business, which have recently ceased trading. In her role as a consultant, Abi has worked with the University of Central Lancashire in delivering equality and diversity training to all grades of staff in Manchester, North Lancashire and Liverpool Primary Care Trusts (PCTs). This work involved developing, delivering and evaluating the training courses.
Abi was engaged as a consultant by Salford University to deliver human rights, equality and diversity training to Abu Dhabi Police who run Al Mafraq Juvenile Welfare Centre in Abu Dhabi until September 2016.

From 2010 to July 2019 Abi was a lay member of Council of the University of Liverpool.
